This was truly the end of the line for many in the Donner party. The statue is the height of the snow that had accumulated that winter in 1840. The gesture of the man in the statue is how they spent every day, looking towards the pass for rescue to come. For many, including the Donner adults, it never came tomorrow we had to the West Coast for a respite.
